::Xandros 2.0 (Standard Edition) Review
.:Posted by: Brad on 2004-01-06
While not as vocal as Lindows, Xandros is the "other" consumer desktop distribution. After seeing that Xandros 2.0 was soon to be released and that it actually had fairly up to date software, such as KDE 3.1, I knew I had to try it.    (more...)

::The Lindows Analysis: A Second Look
.:Posted by: Brad on 2003-09-09
I have never liked judging things before I have had a chance to try them out for myself. Unfortunetly Lindows does not offer a free iso download, or network installs...The first analysis tried to answer the question "Is Lindows good for Linux" by assessing Lindows business practices, role in the community, and public perceptions. This second look will be more of a review of an actual product.    (more...)

.:Posted by: Brad on 2003-04-15
This post I am sure will make a lot of people mad. Mandrake, after all, is the poster child for Linux on the desktop and has a fairly large following. It was at one time evolutionary! It was one of the first (if not the first) to have an "easy" installer. It created tools and wizards for helping users configure their operating system. They had focus (the desktop), they had a strong user community, and they were one of the first to market...    (more...)

::gobeProductive 3 (alpha) Screenshots

A while back Gobe Software announced that it was going to release Windows and Linux versions of it's office suite gobeProductive, which was previously only available for the BeOS. Now it seems that it will be released under the GPL, so I decided to download the alpha release of the Linux version to see what it was like...    (more...)

::Review of DrakeConf (Mandrake 8.0 rc1)
.:Posted by: Brad on 2001-04-14
Linux-Mandrake has done it again, they have made the Linux experience just a l ittle easier. I have installed all the betas (1, 2, and 3) and Release Canidate 1 of Mandrake 8.0 and have been somewhat impressed by what I have seen. But this isn't a review on Mandrake 8.0 itself, rather a review of DrakeConf, Mandrakes own "control panel" type application.    (more...)
